Flyin' Solo
When you come to fly here in the
jungle it will be one of the most
memorable experiences of your
life. Costa Rica stands for "rich
coast", and it lives up to the name
in every way possible. Every site
we fly has an awe inspiring view
of the great, grand pacific ocean.
We are blessed with a beauty in
this country that can't be found
anywhere else in the world. Come
and join us for some life changing
adventures!
HGCR Home Site
Our home site is a 1200' grass
runway with a 3000' run out. We use a
Bailey Moyes 582 tricked out
DragonFly to get you into the sky. Our
runway is located fifteen minutes south
of the town of Jaco, in the primitive
farms of Playa Hermosa. The
conditions in the dry season
(December-April) are very consistent.
By about 8:30 in the morning the slight
off-shore breezes start to retreat
with the heating of the land and
beautiful,fun cumi's start popping off
everywhere. The lift is best from 500'
to 2000'. There are thousands of farm
fields and friendly locals if you want to
go XC. Or you can take a double tow to
5000' and fly over and back into Jaco
Beach for a soft and easy beach
landing into the daily on-shore breeze
that blesses our coastline. If you plan
on going for the cheese and not landing
back at our runway, we recommend to
bring your radio so we can track your
flight and be waiting for you when you
land. If you don't want to bother with a
radio, some car rental agencies rent
cell phones for the length of your stay.
But take account that cell service is
compromised outside the Jaco area.
Foot Launch Flying at Caldera
We offer an unique opportunity to foot launch
a 600', mile long coastal ridge site located
forty-five minutes north of Jaco. We organize the
trip based on the conditions of the day. We are
able to call ahead and speak with Jean-Claude the
proprietor of the site and his insane restaurant
El Mirador which sits right behind launch and
find out exactly if the conditions are good to go
or not. It is usually soarable from one in the
afternoon until about four.(sometimes later) It is
easy smooth flying with a small H4 LZ right below
launch. Check out our Photo Gallery or find a
friend that has the Pura Vida Hang/Para gliding
video to get an idea of the beauty here.
